Help

Learn how to get the most out of Flock, your social productivity companion.

Getting Started

Flock is a social productivity app where you share your daily todos with friends for accountability. When you sign in, you'll see your dashboard with your todo list on the left and your friends' lists beside you.

Your card is highlighted in amber so it's easy to spot. As you complete tasks, you'll see a progress bar fill up. Complete all your todos and celebrate with confetti!

Start by adding some todos for today, then invite some friends to keep each other accountable.

Working with Todos

Adding Todos

Type your task in the input field and press Enter to add it. Your todos are visible to your friends, so they can see what you're working on and cheer you on.

Completing Todos

Click the checkbox next to a todo to mark it complete. Completed items show a strikethrough and fade slightly. You can uncheck to mark it incomplete again.

Marking as Won't Do

Sometimes plans change. Click the strikethrough button (or press %) to mark a todo as "won't do." It will appear crossed out but won't count as completed.

Hiding Todos

Need to keep something private? Click the eye icon (or press h) to hide a todo from friends. Hidden todos appear italicized to you but are invisible to others.

Reordering Todos

Drag and drop todos to reorder them, or use Shift+J and Shift+K to move the selected todo up or down.

Editing Todos

Click on any todo's text to edit it in place. Press Enter or click away to save your changes.

Inbox

The Inbox is your quick-capture tool for tasks that pop into your head but aren't for today. Press i or click the Inbox button to open it.

Add items to your inbox anytime. When you're ready, move them to today or tomorrow with a single click. This keeps your daily list focused while ensuring you don't lose track of ideas.

Inbox items aren't visible to friends until you move them to your todo list.

Dailies

Dailies are templates for tasks you do every day, like "Exercise" or "Morning routine." Set them up once, then add them to today with a single click — no more typing the same things repeatedly.

Press r or click the "Dailies" button on your dashboard to see your templates and add them to today's list.

Manage your dailies from the Dailies page. You can associate dailies with goals using @goalname syntax, and when you add a daily to today, the goal association transfers automatically.

Unlike inbox items, dailies stay in your template list after you add them — they're meant to be reused day after day.

Planning Tomorrow

Once you've completed all your todos for today, a "Tomorrow" section appears. Press n to toggle it, or click the Tomorrow header.

Plan ahead by adding tasks for tomorrow. You can also move inbox items directly to tomorrow. When the new day starts, these will become your active todos.

Didn't finish everything today? Click "Add from yesterday" to roll over incomplete tasks to today.

Daily Intentions

Set a daily intention to share your focus with friends. This appears above your todo list and helps others understand what you're prioritizing today.

Click on your intention text to edit it. Keep it short and meaningful — something like "Shipping the new feature" or "Catching up on reviews."

Goals

Goals help you organize todos by project or area. Create goals from the Goals page (press g to navigate there).

Creating Goals

Each goal has a name, optional description, and color. Choose from 10 colors to visually distinguish your goals.

Tagging Todos with Goals

Type @goalname when creating or editing a todo to tag it with a goal. An autocomplete menu will help you find the right goal. You can also hover over a todo and click the goal chip to change it.

Goal Priorities

Set priorities within goals with due dates. Overdue and due-today priorities appear as alerts on the Goals page and in the navigation bar.

Goals are private — friends can see which goal a todo belongs to, but they can't see your full goal list or descriptions.

Friends & Social Features

Adding Friends

Visit the Friends page to search for users or send email invitations. When someone accepts your friend request, you'll see each other's todos on your dashboards.

Dashboard Layout

Your dashboard shows your todo card on the left (amber-highlighted), with friends' cards flowing horizontally. Friends who haven't added todos yet appear in a "Quiet today" section.

Pinning Friends

Hover over a friend's card and click the pin icon to keep them at the top of your dashboard. Pinned friends always appear first.

Muting Friends

Need a cleaner view? Mute friends to move them to a collapsible section at the bottom of your dashboard. They can still see your todos and vice versa.

Online Status

A colored dot on profile pictures shows online status: green for online, yellow for away, and gray for offline. A purple dot means they're in a pomodoro session.

Poking

If enabled, you can poke friends to give them a friendly nudge. Pokes appear as notifications with a fun wiggle animation.

Kudos

Cheer on your friends by giving kudos on their completed todos. When a friend finishes a task, you'll see a small thumbs-up icon you can click to send encouragement.

You can give one kudos per todo. The kudos count appears on the todo so everyone can see the support. Your friend will receive a notification when they get kudos.

When you receive your first ever kudos, you'll get a special celebratory email. After that, kudos are batched into digest emails so you're not overwhelmed with notifications.

Comments

Leave comments on your friends' completed todos to offer feedback, ask questions, or celebrate their wins. Click on a completed todo to expand it and see the comment section.

Comments are visible to both you and the todo owner. When someone comments on your todo, you'll receive a notification so you don't miss the conversation.

Use comments to stay connected and engaged with what your friends are working on — a quick "nice work!" can make someone's day.

Pomodoro Timer

The built-in pomodoro timer helps you focus in 25-minute intervals. Press t or click the timer button to start a session.

While a pomodoro is running, you'll see a countdown timer with a progress bar. When time's up, you'll get a browser notification (even if you're in another tab).

Completed pomodoros are tracked per todo, shown as small fuchsia dots. Hover to see the count. This helps you see how much focused time you've invested in each task.

Your online status changes to purple during a pomodoro, so friends know you're in deep focus mode.

Command Palette

Press ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) to open the command palette — a quick way to navigate anywhere in Flock.

Start typing to filter commands, then use arrow keys to select and Enter to navigate. The palette includes all pages, account settings sections, and admin pages (if you're an admin).

Calendar Integration

Subscribe to your goal priorities in your calendar app. Go to Account Settings and find the Calendar Subscription section.

Click "Subscribe" to add the calendar to your default calendar app, or copy the URL manually for other apps like Google Calendar.

Your calendar will show goal priorities as all-day events with AI-generated summaries of what needs to be done.

History

The History page shows all your past todos, grouped by date. See what you accomplished, how many pomodoros you invested, and which goals you worked on.

Days where you completed all your todos are marked with an "All done!" indicator. Use this to track your consistency over time.

Access History from the navigation bar or by clicking on a past date reference in the app.

Privacy Settings

Control what others see about you in Account Settings under Privacy.

  • Show name publicly — Display your real name or just your username
  • Show email publicly — Let others see your email address
  • Hide online status — Don't show the colored status dot on your avatar
  • Hide public profile — Make your profile page inaccessible to non-friends
  • Enable poking — Allow friends to send you pokes

Remember, you can also hide individual todos using the eye icon or pressing h.

Email Preferences

Control which emails you receive from Flock in your Email Preferences.

  • Kudos notifications — Get notified when friends send you kudos
  • Comment notifications — Get notified when friends comment on your todos
  • Weekly digest — Receive a weekly summary of your productivity
  • Goal priority reminders — Get reminded about upcoming and overdue goal priorities
  • Marketing emails — Occasional updates about new Flock features

Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe from all emails at once from the preferences page.

Beeminder Integration

Connect Flock to Beeminder to add commitment contracts to your productivity. Beeminder charges you real money if you don't meet your goals — a powerful motivator for some!

Getting Started

Visit Beeminder Settings to connect your Beeminder account via OAuth. Once connected, you can create mappings between Flock metrics and Beeminder goals.

Trackable Metrics

  • Todos completed — Count of completed todos (optionally filtered by goal)
  • Pomodoros completed — Count of pomodoro sessions you finish
  • String match — Todos containing specific text (e.g., "#workout")
  • Completion percentage — Your daily todo completion rate

How It Works

Data is synced automatically to Beeminder when you complete todos or pomodoros. Completion percentage is synced at midnight in your timezone.

A dashboard widget shows your upcoming "beemergencies" — Beeminder goals that are close to derailing — so you know where to focus your energy.
